Most of us have routines that we created in our childhood. We were taught to brush our teeth in the morning and at night. Now we brush without thinking about it. It has become a habit. A routine is something we do on a regular basis. The Merriam-Webster definition is a regular course of procedure.

The purpose of implementing a healthy routine for your day is to give you a plan to follow. It allows you to create a system customized for you. Think about what you want to accomplish. Structure or schedule your day to include healthy actions. You may need to adjust your plan because life can cause the need for change; however, the goal is to have a base to follow.

When creating a daily routine, you should consider your personality. If you are not a morning person you will probably not stick with getting up at 5 AM to exercise. An evening or night workout would probably work best for you. If you get bored easy, perhaps you will function better if your routine varies from day to day. Create a to-do-list either first thing in the morning or before you go to bed at night listing the things you want to accomplish. Make your list specific. If you plan to exercise list how long and what time. If you have eating healthy on the list. List what foods you plan to eat. How will you prepare them? If you list getting more sleep. Set a specific bedtime. Do you want to drink more water? List how many ounces you want to consume. Review your list and decide if you will have enough time in the day to complete the tasks. Determine what time of the day you are most productive and schedule your most complex activities for that time of day.

It may appear that creating a daily routine for living healthy is difficult. I believe the benefits are worth it. Try it out and adjust the routine to meet your needs.
